Finding your Facebook ID
- If Facebook removed content that you want to be restored, you’ll need a reference number to submit a dispute
To get your Facebook reference number:
Find the message Facebook sent you when they removed the content.
- Click the bell icon to show your notifications.
- Select the message about the content removal. Click on the content decision.
- Or go to Profile Status or Account Status and click on the content decision.
When you click on the content decision, a screen entitled “Details” should appear.
- Click “Information for people in the EU”, followed by:
- “Get information”
- “Continue”
- “Create reference number.”
If you still can’t find your Facebook reference number.
- Click on this link, log into your Facebook account and fill out the form.
- Click “Create reference number”.
We’ll also need the date Facebook removed the content
- When Facebook removes your content, they should send you a message outlining their decision. This should show the date they took their decision. You can find this in your notifications (under the bell icon), Profile Status or Account Status.
- Please note: The Appeals Centre can only review cases where the platform made its decision within the past six months.
2. If Facebook left up content that you want to be removed, you do NOT need a reference number to submit a dispute
However, you’ll still need to provide the following information to submit your dispute:
Time/date you reported the content to Facebook
- Report the content by clicking the three dots at the top-right of the content and selecting “Report post / photo / video.” To report a comment, press and hold the comment (App) or click the three dots to the right of the comment (Desktop). Select “Report comment.”
- You’ll then receive a message entitled “We received your report” in “Reports about others” in your Support Inbox. The time and date of your report is at the top of this message.

To find the URL of the Facebook profile which posted the content you reported:
- App: click on the name of the profile in the top-left corner of the content. Click the three dots just under the bio. The last option should show the link to the profile.
- Desktop: click on the name of the profile in the top-left corner of the content. Then copy the URL from your browser.

To find the URL of the content you reported:
- App: click on “Share” in the bottom-right of the content. Click “copy link” at the bottom of the screen. For comments, please provide the URL of the content which the comment replied to.
- Desktop: click on the time and date in the top-left of the content. Then copy the URL from your browser. For comments, click on the date/time it was posted (below the comment and to the left). Then copy the URL from your browser.
